Booty Bass is more than a club night—it’s a movement. As curators, change-makers and promoters, the collective does more than just perform. They create spaces, organise stage takeovers and produce events that centre marginalised voices while pushing bass-driven sounds from around the world.
Founded in response to the music industry’s tokenistic approach to diversity, Booty Bass was built to challenge the status quo. Too often, Global Majority artists—especially women and gender-expansive people—were booked as the only visible representation of diversity on line-ups, without real systemic support. Rather than fitting into an industry that was not built with them in mind, they built their own infrastructure, ensuring marginalised communities had access to authentic, long-term opportunities.
Since its humble beginnings in 2018 at The Plough in Bristol, Booty Bass has grown into a powerhouse collective, curating festival stages, organising takeovers, and delivering unforgettable events. Over the years, they have played some of the UK’s biggest festivals, including Boomtown, Shambala and Glastonbury, where they levelled up in 2024 with sets at Shangri-La’s Nomad Stage—a space for underrepresented queer artists—and a takeover of the Nowhere Stage, which has hosted artists like Kitty Amor, DJ EZ, Hagan and Lady Shaka. Their collaboration with Shangri-La has become a regular fixture, bringing their signature energy to one of the festival’s most iconic spaces.
Beyond performance, Booty Bass is shaping the future of music events. In 2023, they curated the first-ever female-led queer sound system at St Pauls Carnival, which welcomes up to 120,000 people annually, working with PHAT Bristol to ensure the event had dedicated queer security. They have also hosted Booty Bass & Friends at Bristol’s Trinity Centre in partnership with RepresentAsian, a collective creating representation for South Asian artists in the music industry, and See No Evil, who specialise in Amapiano, House, and UK Funky. Their regular collaborations include Popola, a celebration of Latinx and Afro-Caribbean roots, and Shade Cartel, a Black-led inclusive dance and theatre collective.
In 2023, Booty Bass co-founded Obsidian alongside Shade Cartel, a collective dedicated to platforming Global Majority talent. Obsidian made its debut at Boomtown Festival, running a Global Majority, female-led venue that showcased groundbreaking artists and performers.
Booty Bass is more than just DJs and dance floors. As of 2025, the collective includes DJs NGAIO, Devolicious, and GAROËSS; host Thai Chi Rosè; designer Engy Elboreini; videographer Charlotte Sawyer; and photographer Charley Williams—a team of creatives shaping the collective’s bold, dynamic identity. As it continues to grow, Booty Bass is evolving beyond performance, with an exciting rebrand in progress and a renewed focus on workshops, mentorship, and industry change.
Guided by its Rules of the Dance—equity, respect, creativity, accountability, and joy—Booty Bass isn’t just about the party. It’s about building something radical, inclusive, and lasting beyond the dance floor.
